These days I feel that schools and government agencies are regulating lunches in different parts of the world including Canada and the US . Most schools around the world have been strict or have been taking over students’ food within their school. Many people in the world want to eat what they are used to or what they commonly eat but schools and government agencies are trying to influence student's life styles.
I think for students, they have rights to have freedom of choosing what kind of food they would want to eat for their lunch. Students don’t want to be eating food that they are assigned everyday but it seems that schools want more control over what students eat which is unfair. I think students needs freedom from strict foods from their schools because it is the same way with uniforms. My friend made a speech about uniforms and he said that students have different personalities and students should have freedom to wear what ever they want to show their personality. As with uniforms, students want to show their personality with food and what they like to eat. As it says on the state has no place in the lunch bags of a nation schools want students to eat the right food which means that they are forced to eat the food that they may not be used to. It also states that when students are allowed to have any food they want, they usually have an unbalanced lunch or eat junk food.
However, I also think that it is a good idea to have a pre-set lunch which is nutritious and well chosen from all the food groups which students need. When the school or the government chooses to give healthy food options to students, there is no worry that students will be sick or unhealthy from eating those chosen foods. For us students, we are eating too much of one type of food or junk food so the government has been regulating lunches which some schools are making the students eat in the cafeteria.
I think this regulation is both bad and good for students and maybe even their families. I think that this regulation should not be made in schools because students have the right to choose if they want to be healthy by eating the cafeteria food or bringing lunch from home. This regulation is not important to me because our school doesn’t have this rule but for the students that do, I think those students do not like this and I think the students should be able to choose. What do you think?

ReplyDeleteI agree with you Colin. Students should have the right to choose what they like to eat. I like how you gave reasons for both sides, supporting and against this plan. However, I have found several grammar mistakes as I was reading your post. I understand that everyone makes small mistakes, but one strategy to avoid grammar and spelling mistakes is to type your post on Word first, then spell check and correct any errors, and finally you can copy and paste your writing onto the "Create Post" box. Spell checking on Word is better than spell checking on Blogger because Blogger only spell checks spelling errors, but Word spell checks both spelling and grammar errors. I also like how you end with a question, for your readers to continue thinking about their opinion.
ReplyDeleteI was trying to fix the problem and didn't have time to edit. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteYou do address more than one side of the issue but it is very evident your main argument appears to be that students should have the "right" to choose.... When tackling an issue connected to government policies or laws try to consider the rationale behind the policy as that can leave you with a bit more than your initial, or what appears to be your initial gut / emmotional response regarding your rights. To counter your argument, I might suggest that as minors, you have few rights, however an argument could be made that your parents have rights to determine what you eat more than the government should. If you expand on some of the other points your post would be a little more balanced. For instance, you could expand on your point as to why the government would want to ensure students are eating healthy and why schools? Consider connections between student learning and long term benefits of eating well over choice alone. Keep on improving Colin.
